The beautiful seaside town of Sanur lies in the South East of Bali.
In 1906, the Dutch invaded Bali on the beach at Sanur.
It is a lot more laid back, and less busy than neighbouring Kuta and Legian, and still retains the “Real Bali Feel”, even though it has been an established tourist resort for many years now.
It has a long sandy beach, which in fact is made up of many beaches, the centre of this is Sindu beach. There is a boardwalk, which runs for about 6 kms along this beautiful white sandy beach. There are numerous restaurants, bars and shops along the boardwalk, and the well known Sindu night market. Back from the beach, is the main road of Sanur, which is lined with shops, galleries and more restaurants, a real foodies paradise.
You can find most types of cuisine here, ranging from local Indonesian and Balinese food to Italain, Japanese and fusion food.
There are numerous watersports available, and Sanur is one of the best spots on the island to see the sunrise, a great start to the day.
There are boats that leave from Sanur beach that go to nearby Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida islands, where you can go for a day trip, or also to spend a few nights, the latter I would highly recommend.
There is the temple, Pura Blanjong, located close to the centre of Sanur, which is known for having
the so called Prasati Blanjong, which is an ancient
stone pillar, with sanscript inscriptions, which tells a story of a king from Java, that came to Bali in the 10th century, and formed the first known government on the island.
I certainly recommend you to include Sanur into your bespoke Bali vacation.
