When Words Fail, Music Speaks... #pemuteranfestival #bespokebali #singlesvacations #yourbaliplanner

On the North West coast of Bali, between Lovina and the West Bali national park, lies Pemuteran. This sleepy little coast side town, has become very popular with tourists, and along with neighbouring Mejungan island, has arguably the best snorkelling and diving in Bali, and is also home, to the largest artificial Biorock reef project in the world. I am particularly impressed, with the real spirit of marine conservation in this area. Once a year, Pemuteran bay holds its annual festival. The festival attracts local and international tourists alike. the festival takes place at a location right by the ocean, there are several warungs selling various food and drinks. The entertainment line up is eclectic. For the opening night, there was the beautiful sound of Rindik, traditional Balinese flute music, cover and rock bands. There was Balinese dance, an ancient dance tradition that is part of the religious and artistic expression amongst the Balinese people. Balinese dance is dynamic, angular and intensely expressive, the dancers wearing beautiful traditional "Kebaya", with it's bright colours, featuring lots of gold.

Pemuteran is well worth a visit, apart from the beautiful protected bay, water sports and laid back feel, there are many sights around here to visit, including "Pura Pulaki", one of Bali's largest Hindu temples, located on the coast, to honour the gods of the sea, with its many inhabitants, the local monkeys, that symbolise guardians against evil spirits. Discover local artisans making jewellery, go hiking in the nearby West Bali National park, where you might stumble upon the rarer black monkey and many types of birds. I'm now going back to the festival for a cold Bintang, cheers.....
